Seals in the Caspian Sea

Tyuleniy is an island in the Caspian Sea, administratively part of Dagestan. Located 30 km northeast of Cape Suyutkina Spit. Low-lying, sandy. Length up to 8 km, width up to 6 km. There is no permanent population. The island first appeared on maps of Russia in 1817 under the name Tyulenkaya Bank.

The Caspian seal or Caspian seal is the only representative of marine mammals in the Caspian Sea, an endangered species. Since 2020, the Caspian seal has been included in the Red Book of the Russian Federation, and since 2008 it has been on the list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature as “endangered”.
